BENWELL & WALBOTTLE CRICKET CLUB

ESTABLISHED 1868

Sponsored By

Located in the grounds of
Walbottle Campus Technology
College in the picturesque
village of Walbottle just west of
Newcastle upon Tyne. The club
was founded in 1868, known
originally as Benwell Cricket
Club and has played in the
premiere leagues of
Northumberland since then.
The club currently plays in the
Northumberland & Tyneside
Senior League and is an
intergral part of the newly
formed Sporting Club Walbottle,
which is a partnership
organistation that has been
created between Walbottle
Campus school, several other
sports clubs and the Local
Education Authority.

After two years of waiting we
were notified in 2000 that the
Education Authority had been
awarded Sports Lottery
Funding to build a new
clubhouse and changing
facilities on the school
grounds, which were officially
opened on 8 May 2001.
In partnership with the other
sports clubs it is our intention
to develop cricket and other
sports within the school and
local community in an attempt
to make this the best
sports facility in the City of
Newcastle upon Tyne.

"You do well to love it, for it is more free from anything sordid, anything dishonourable, than any game in the world. To play it keenly, honourably, generously, self-sacrificingly, is a moral lesson in itself, and the classroom is God's air and sunshine. Foster it my brothers so it may attract all who find time to play it. Protect it from anything that would sully it, so that it may grow in favour with all men."
